The TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the entry requirement to deliver nationally accredited vocational training in private Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and TAFEs, as well as in secondary schools with vocational programs. This qualification is fast becoming the standard for those working in staff training and development roles in a variety of private enterprises, as well as for Human Resource professionals.

The TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment course helps you to develop your skills, knowledge and experience to design, deliver and assess training.

This qualification is best suited to individuals delivering training and assessment within the vocational education and training sector. It suits those wanting to enter the training industry, or those either delivering accredited training or responsible for the assessment of competence of an apprentice or trainee within a workplace.

Our online delivery allows you to complete flexibly.

How is the Zoom 1 Block course different to our other programs?
  • Unlike our standard program, our Zoom program is not entirely self-paced but is facilitated via Zoom by our trainer Brian Uren over ten consecutive business days.
  • Courses are scheduled to commence once or twice a month. Every final Friday of each course is a Study Day dedicated to those who would like more time to review or ask for assistance and support from their Trainer. Study days are open to all students of this program during their six-month enrolment duration.
  • All practical assessment tasks are completed in class with your fellow students.
  • There are assessment tasks that will need to be completed after the face to face delivery of the course.  These include things like designing learning programs, developing assessment tools and demonstrating your knowledge. For this, you will have access to all digital course materials and resources, as well as support from your trainer, for the duration of your enrolment.

Are there any entry requirements?

Unlike previous Certificate IV in Training & Assessment qualifications, the latest TAE40116 requires people entering the program to be able to:

demonstrate vocational competency in their proposed teaching and assessing area. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include, but is not limited to, holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification.

How do I do that?

For most people, it will simply be a matter of providing a copy of some other qualification, skill set, or statement of attainment.  If you do not possess another qualification, then we would require you to provide a CV that shows your broad industry knowledge and experience, combined with a Position Description and Third Party Report from someone who can attest to your experience.

In essence, the entry requirement is to be able to provide evidence of your knowledge and experience in your industry area.

How long does it take?

The entire duration of enrolment is 6 months. This includes two components:

  • The face to face component (via Zoom):  10 business days
  • The online/distance component:  the remainder of the enrolment duration
How does it work?

The initial face-to-face portion (via Zoom) of the course will be delivered over 10 consecutive business days (refer to “How is the course delivered?”).  This provides the foundation learning for the program and also includes a considerable amount of the practical assessment components, especially those that require access to other people

Following the face-to-face component, your learning will continue, and you will have further assessment tasks to complete.  The pace at which you complete these is up to you, but we do allow up to 6 months so you can fully immerse yourself in the program, and better juggle the program with other components of your life.

What will affect how long my TAE Certificate IV will take?

Experience tells us that the following factors will affect the time it takes to complete this course:

  • Experience – if you have experience in training/assessing, then you will likely not need as long as people without experience
  • Dedication – if you have a good reason to do the course, and can hold yourself accountable, then you will likely not need as long as people who are less committed
  • Other commitments – if you have a busy life with many competing professional and personal demands, then you will likely need longer than those people with fewer demands.

All assessments are based on real-life workplace scenarios, meaning that there is no requirement for assessments to be completed in a particular workplace. Ultimately, you will have six months from the beginning of your course to complete and submit your assessment tasks.

While it differs for different people, we find that successful students usually dedicate 10 to 15 hours per week.

That said, some of our students take less time, while others take more. It is up to you.

Successful Study Habits

We have a video on Successful Study Habits that will support you to progress through the course in a timely manner. Here is what we know to be true, based on our experience with thousands of students:

  • Talk to us! If you’re stuck on a problem at home or feel overwhelmed, don’t sit and stew, or worse, procrastinate! Connect with us in whatever way suits you, be it phone, chat, email, Google Meet or Zoom, and we’ll help you reach a solution so you can get on with your studies.
  • Schedule it in! Set aside “chunks’ of time to allow you to really sink your teeth (and brain) into the learning process and allow yourself to get “in the zone”. You can set your own pace, structuring your learning and your assessments to suit your lifestyle.
  • And lastly, take your course one step at a time… consistency is important but if the unexpected happens, we can help you find solutions.

All assessments are based on real-life workplace scenarios, meaning that there is no requirement for assessments to be completed in a particular workplace. Ultimately, you will have six months from the beginning of your course to complete and submit your assessment tasks.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

In ordinary circumstances, in the event of withdrawal, the following refunds will apply, calculated based on the date of the business day on which the official Withdrawal Form is received.

To withdraw, a student must fill out a Fortress Learning Withdrawal Form which is available from the Learner Portal, or from the RTO on request. Once signed, submit to Fortress Learning.  Because eligibility for refund is calculated based on the date of the business day on which the completed Withdrawal Form is received we encourage prompt completion and submission of the Form.

Fortress Learning will contact the student upon receipt of the withdrawal form to advise of any outstanding issues e.g. return of course materials, completed units, outstanding fees, and also the calculation of any refund that may be payable.

Where are refund is payable, it will be paid within 21 days of receiving the completed Withdrawal Form.

Due to the additional expenses and required number of participants associated with running Zoom programs, the following fees apply to withdrawal:

  • If you withdraw 10-20 business days before the scheduled course start date, there is a Cancellation Fee equal to 20% of the Course Fee.  This fee will be waived provided that the candidate re-books for a new scheduled course date (ie, it is not possible to “hold” the enrolment open until a future course that is yet to be advertised becomes available).  This or any other waiver applies on only one occasion and only where their account is up to date and remains up to date.
  • If you withdraw within 10 business days of the scheduled course start date, there is a Cancellation Fee equal to 50% of the Course Fee.   This fee will be waived provided that the candidate re-books for a new scheduled course date (ie, it is not possible to “hold” the enrolment open until a future course that is yet to be advertised becomes available).  This or any other waiver applies on only one occasion and only where their account is up to date and remains up to date.
  • If you fail to attend or withdraw following commencement of the Zoom block component, no refund will be issued.
  • If you withdraw following completion of the Zoom block component, no refund will be issued.
Credit Transfer & Recognition of Prior Learning

We are able to award Credit Transfer where a unit you have completed previously is an equivalent version of the one included in this program.  However, because our program is delivered and assessed holistically, it is not likely that just 1-2 units would make much difference to what your program involves.  For this reason, the fee is not reduced unless you are able to obtain Credit Transfer for an entire Cluster (ie, Design, Deliver or Assess).  If you are not sure, then the best thing is to have a chat with your Trainer about this before you enrol.

This course is delivered via full Coursework only. If you would like to apply for RPL, please submit your Personal Learning Plan Survey and enrol into our Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (RPL and CT).

Is this Course a good fit for you?

We want to make sure that you are the right fit for us and we are the right fit for you. Here are a few things for you to consider:

  • Fortress Learning is not a “tick and flick” RTO. If you want the fastest and easiest way, we probably won’t be a good fit.
  • We made the decision a long time ago to focus on quality and not quantity. As a result, our qualifications have a very good reputation in the industry.
  • Employers know that a Fortress Learning qualification is more than just a piece of paper; it has substance.
  • Our students finish their training with knowledge, competence and confidence.
Suitability Assessment

All our enrolments will have a Suitability Assessment to complete before you can enrol.

The Suitability Assessment will address the technical requirements of the program, required IT skills and also make sure you have access to the human and physical resources you need for the practical requirements.

This ensures that you are placed in the right course for you and that there are no nasty surprises after you have paid and started your course.
